As a student services department, it is our goal to work in collaboration with students and families to help ensure success for every Smith Middle School student. We strive to provide students, families, and staff with various supports and resources, and we look forward to working with you this year!
Bio: Jo Massey has been the student services secretary (a.k.a. school mom) at Smith for about 15 years. When she's not answering the phone, filing, gluing people's shoes back together, or sewing up ripped clothes, she enjoys solving issues (or directing you to someone who can), especially if it involves one of the languages she speaks. *Se habla español*
Bio: My name is LaFreda Sawyer and I have the honor to serve children as a School Counselor. I have 22 years of experience in education. My foundation in education consisted of me being a school administrative assistant, a CTE Business Education Teacher and now a School Counselor. I am a graduate of North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, NC, there I obtained a Bachelor’s in Business Administration. I earned my Master of Education in School Counseling and Master of Arts in Business Management & Leadership from Liberty University.
Bio: Ms. Bryan is a proud graduate of UNC-G (Go SPARTANS) and NCA&T (AGGIE PRIDE)! This is her 23rd year working in the NC school system. Ms. Bryan spent seven years as an Educational Interpreter for Deaf/HH students and finished out her years in Guildford County as a Middle School Counselor. This is her 7th year at Smith! Ms. Bryan is a proud mother and grandmother that loves spending time with family. She loves to travel and can talk all day about the happiest place on earth…DISNEY WORLD!!!!
Bio: Nurse Dasher is excited to be at Smith Middle this year! She has a BS in nursing from UNC-Chapel Hill. She is looking forward to working with students, family, and staff. When she is not at Smith, she is spending time with her husband and three children.
Bio: LeAnne Parr is the school psychologist at Smith Middle and Estes Hills Elementary Schools. This year is her seventh with CHCCS. She completed her graduate studies in School Psychology at James Madison University in Virginia. Her role involves supporting students with different learning needs in the Exceptional Children’s Program, and she is passionate about providing inclusive services. She also facilitates social and emotional interventions for all students and speaks Spanish. When not at work, she enjoys being silly and having adventures with her three children (10, 8, and 3) and husband.
